When is Eid ul Adha 2026 in Comoros?

What is Eid al-Adha (the Feast of Sacrifice) & Sunnah of Eid Prayer

There are two key Eid's (Celebration Festivals) in Islam: Eid-ul-Fitr, which signifies the completion of the holy month of Ramadan; and Eid-ul-Adha, the greater Eid, which follows the completion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage, at the time of Qurbani (sacrifice). Although Eid-ul-Adha has no direct relation to the Hajj pilgrimage, it takes place a day after the completion of Hajj and therefore has significance in time.

Sunnah of Eid ul Adha

Before going for Eid prayer, Muslims follow the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the traditions. Here are the most important ways for celebrating Eid:

  • Wake up early and take a bath.
  • Wear clean and modest clothes.
  • Use perfume if suitable.
  • Recite the Eid Takbir on the way to Eid Salah.
  • Go to the Eid prayer with family or the local Muslim community.
  • Listen to the Eid khutbah after the prayer.
  • Give Qurbani after Eid prayer, not before.
  • Share Qurbani meat with family, neighbours, and people in need.
  • Greet everyone with Eid Mubarak and make dua for them.

For Eid al Adha, many Muslims delay eating until after Eid prayer, especially when they will offer Qurbani. There is no Zakat al-Fitr for Eid al Adha; the key act is Qurbani for those who are able.

How to Pray Eid al-Adha Prayer (Rak'at, Takbir, Route)

The Eid-ul Fitr and Eid-ul Adha prayers consist of two raka'ah, with additional takbirs in each raka'ah.

Reported A'ishah: 'Allah's messenger used to say Allahu Akbar in the Eid prayers of al-Fitr and al-Adha seven times in the first rak'ah and five in the second.' (Abu Dawud, hadith No. 1,149)

Below are the steps on how to perform the Eid prayer:

1. First Raka'ah
The Imam will start the prayer with the Takbiratul Ihram (the first takbir, i.e. Allahu Akbar) and then follow up with seven more takbirs. After that, Al-Fatihah will be read, then another Surah after it.

2. Second Raka'ah
After standing, the Imam says the first takbir, then repeats the takbir five times. Surah Al-Fatihah will be read, then another Surah after it.

3. Khutbah
After Salah, the Imam will address the people with a khutbah. It can take around 20-30 minutes. You should listen attentively because the Imam shares important Islamic matters.

Takbir al Eid

Takbeer Tashreeq in Arabic:

اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ لَا إلَهَ إلَّا اللَّهُ وَاَللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ وَلِلَّهِ الْحَمْد

Transliteration: Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar La Ilaha Ilallah Wallahu Akbar Allahu Akbar Wa Lillahil Hamd

Meaning: Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest. There is no deity (no god) besides Allah and Allah is the greatest. Allah is the greatest and to Allah all praises belong. (Irwa Al Ghalil: 3/125)

Qurbani for Eid ul Adha: Meaning, Time, and Sharing

Qurbani is the sacrifice offered on Eid ul Adha to remember the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (AS). It is one of the main acts of Eid al Adha for Muslims who are financially able.

Qurbani should be done after Eid prayer. Many Islamic charity guides state that Qurbani begins after Eid Salah on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah and may continue through the days of Tashreeq, with some guidance allowing it until before Maghrib on the 13th of Dhul Hijjah. Always follow your local scholar or mosque for exact practice.

Simple Qurbani Checklist

  • Choose a healthy Qurbani animal.
  • Do not perform Qurbani before Eid prayer.
  • Keep the intention only for Allah.
  • Share the meat with family, relatives, neighbours, and people in need.
  • Follow local safety, hygiene, and animal market rules.
  • Say Eid Mubarak and spread kindness, not waste.

Eid ul Adha Qurbani Rules

Qurbani is an important act of worship during Eid ul Adha. The animal chosen for Qurbani must meet certain conditions to be valid.

Rules for Qurbani Animals

  • They need to be able to walk themselves to the site of the slaughter.
  • They shouldn't be toothless or missing half of their teeth.
  • They mustn't have a lame leg that is weak, making them unable to walk.
  • They can't be blind or have only one eye.
  • They must be a healthy weight as they can't be significantly thin or lean.

Who Must Give Qurbani?

The Hanafi school of thought outlines that Qurbani is compulsory for:

  • Sane adult Muslims who have reached puberty.
  • Those who own wealth beyond their needs, which is equal to (or more than) the current nisab threshold.
  • Non-travelling persons.

Day of Arafah & Fasting

The Day of Arafah is one of the most important days of Hajj. It falls on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, when pilgrims gather at Arafah near Makkah and spend the day in prayer, worship, and sincere dua. Arafah is known as the "Day of the Greater Hajj," where pilgrims devote themselves to Allah until sunset.

Fasting on the Day of Arafah

Fasting on the Day of Arafah is highly recommended for Muslims who are not performing Hajj. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that fasting on this day expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year.

This makes the fast of Arafah one of the most meaningful fasts in Islam. It is a simple act, but its reward is great. Muslims around the world use this day to fast, make dua, read Qur'an, give charity, and seek forgiveness.
