Sunan Abi DawudHadith Number 1299

'Urwah b. Ruwaim Narrated from:

An al-Ansari narrated to him: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to Ja'far. He then narrated the tradition in like manner. This version has the words: "In the second prostration of the first rak'ah" in addition to the words transmitted by Mahdi b. Maimun (in the previous tradition).

Summary of Sunan Abi Dawud Hadith 1299

This Ja'far Salat al-Tasbih hadith is a short variant report. Urwah b. Ruwaim narrated that an Ansari told him that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said this hadith to Ja'far. The narration says it was reported in a similar manner to the earlier Tasbih prayer narration. Its special added wording is about “the second prostration of the first rak'ah,” matching the wording transmitted by Mahdi b. Maimun in the previous report. Because this text is brief, the safe explanation is also brief in meaning: it preserves another route of the Tasbih prayer report and highlights one added detail about where the repeated remembrance is placed in the prayer sequence.

What we learn from this hadith

  • This narration links the Tasbih prayer report to Ja'far.
  • It says the report was narrated in a similar manner to the earlier version.
  • The added detail concerns the second prostration of the first rak'ah.
  • The narration shows how small wording differences are preserved.
