Summary of Sunan Abi Dawud Hadith 1544
This Hadith brings together two types of protection: personal hardship and moral safety. Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) used to seek refuge in Allah from poverty, lack, and abasement. He also sought refuge from causing wrong or suffering wrong. The wording teaches a believer to care not only about being safe from hardship, but also about not becoming a source of harm to others. The dua against poverty and humiliation is direct, and the dua against injustice is balanced. It asks Allah to protect a person from being the wrongdoer and from being wronged. This makes it a strong daily supplication for dignity and fair conduct.
What we learn from this hadith
- The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) sought Allah’s refuge from poverty, lack, and humiliation.
- A believer should ask Allah not to become a person who wrongs others.
- It is also valid to ask Allah for protection from being wronged.
- This dua joins personal need with good character and justice.
