Summary of Sunan Abi Dawud Hadith 1559
This Hadith focuses on the zakat threshold for grain or dates. Abu Sa'id al-Khudri narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said there is no zakat payable on less than five camel-loads. The report then states that one wasq measures sixty sa' in weight. This makes the Hadith useful for people searching for five wasq zakat threshold or wasq meaning in zakat. The wording is narrower than the previous Hadith because it centers on grain or dates and the measure of wasq. The text also includes Abu Dawud’s note that Abu al-Bakhtari did not hear from Abu Sa'id, but the core content presented is about the zakat threshold.
What we learn from this hadith
- The Hadith states no zakat is payable below five wasq for grain or dates.
- It defines one wasq as sixty sa' in this report.
- The focus is on measured produce, not every type of wealth.
- The report includes a note about the chain from Abu Dawud.
