Summary of Sunan Abi Dawud Hadith 156
This hadith about wiping over socks by Allah’s command gives a clear exchange between Al-Mughirah ibn Shu’bah and the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم). Al-Mughirah saw the Prophet wiping over the socks and asked, “Messenger of Allah, have you forgotten?” The Prophet answered that Al-Mughirah had forgotten, and said, “My Lord has commanded me to do this.” The narration shows that the action was not presented as forgetfulness. It was explained as a commanded act. For readers searching my Lord commanded me to wipe over socks hadith, the key point is this answer. The text should be handled carefully: it does not list the wider rules of wiping, but it strongly links this action to the Prophet’s stated obedience to Allah.
