حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ صَفْوَانَ، قَالَ لَمَّا فَتَحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم مَكَّةَ قُلْتُ لأَلْبَسَنَّ ثِيَابِي - وَكَانَتْ دَارِي عَلَى الطَّرِيقِ - فَلأَنْظُرَنَّ كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَانْطَلَقْتُ فَرَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَدْ خَرَجَ مِنَ الْكَعْبَةِ هُوَ وَأَصْحَابُهُ وَقَدِ اسْتَلَمُوا الْبَيْتَ مِنَ الْبَابِ إِلَى الْحَطِيمِ وَقَدْ وَضَعُوا خُدُودَهُمْ عَلَى الْبَيْتِ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَسْطَهُمْ .
AbdurRahman ibn Safwan Narrated from:
When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) conquered Mecca, I said (to myself): I shall put on my clothes, and my house lay on the way, I shall watch how the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) behaves. So I went out. I saw that the Prophet (ﷺ) and his Companions had come out from the Ka'bah and embraced the House (the Ka'bah) from its entrance (al-Bab) to al-Hatim. They placed their cheek on the House (the Ka'bah) while the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was amongst them.

Summary of Sunan Abi Dawud Hadith 1898
This hadith about embracing the Ka’bah reports what AbdurRahman ibn Safwan saw when the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم conquered Makkah. He went out to watch how the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم would act. He saw the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and his Companions coming out from the Ka’bah. They embraced the House from its entrance to al-Hatim and placed their cheeks on the House, while the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم was among them. The report gives a vivid description of their closeness to the Ka’bah at that moment. It does not add a general command, so the explanation stays with what was seen and reported.
