23/8. Chapter:

The bath of a dead (Muslim) and his ablution with water and Sidr (lote-tree leaves)

And Ibn ‘Umar applied Hanut (a kind of scent) to the dead body of the son of Sa‘id bin Zaid and carried it and then offered the funeral prayers, but he did not perform ablution. Ibn ‘Abbas said, “A Muslim never becomes Najas (impure) whether dead or alive.” And Sa‘d said, “If he had been impure then I would not have touched him.” And the Prophet ﷺ said, “A faithful believer never becomes Najas (impure).”

Sahih BukhariHadith Number 1253

Narrated Um 'Atiyya al-Ansariya: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came to us when his daughter died and said, "Wash her thrice or five times or more, if you see it necessary, with water and Sidr and then apply camphor or some camphor at the end; and when you finish, notify me." So when we finished it, we informed him and he gave us his waist-sheet and told us to shroud the dead body in it.
