62/13. Chapter:

The merits of Az-Zubair bin Al-'Awwam رضي الله عنه

قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ هُوَ حَوَارِيُّ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَسُمِّيَ الْحَوَارِيُّونَ لِبَيَاضِ ثِيَابِهِمْ.Ibn 'Abbas said, "He (i.e., Az-Zubair) was the Hawari (i.e., disciple) of the Prophet ﷺ. And the Hawariyyun were called so because of the whiteness of their clothes."

Sahih BukhariHadith Number 3719

حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ ـ هُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ـ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ "‏ إِنَّ لِكُلِّ نَبِيٍّ حَوَارِيًّا، وَإِنَّ حَوَارِيَّ الزُّبَيْرُ بْنُ الْعَوَّامِ ‏"‏‏.‏

Narrated Jabir: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Every prophet used to have a Hawari (i.e. disciple), and my Hawari is Az-Zubair bin Al-`Awwam."
