Hadith About Allah’s Majesty and Kingship

Sahih BukhariHadith Number 4811

`Abdullah Narrated from:

A (Jewish) Rabbi came to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and he said, "O Muhammad! We learn that Allah will put all the heavens on one finger, and the earths on one finger, and the trees on one finger, and the water and the dust on one finger, and all the other created beings on one finger. Then He will say, 'I am the King.' Thereupon the Prophet (ﷺ) smiled so that his pre-molar teeth became visible, and that was the confirmation of the Rabbi. Then Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) recited: 'They made not a just estimate of Allah such as is due to Him. And on the Day of Resurrection the whole of the earth will be grasped by His Hand and the heavens will be rolled up in His Right Hand. Glorified is He, and High is He above all that they associate as partners with Him.' (39.67)

Summary of Sahih Bukhari Hadith 4811

This Hadith speaks about Allah’s greatness and His kingship. A rabbi came to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) and mentioned that Allah will place the heavens, earths, trees, water, dust, and all created beings in His grasp, and say, 'I am the King.' The Prophet smiled in confirmation and recited the verse that people did not make a just estimate of Allah, while the earth will be grasped and the heavens rolled up in His Right Hand on the Day of Resurrection. The Hadith about Allah’s majesty teaches that all creation is under Allah’s power. It also warns people not to think lightly of Allah or associate partners with Him.

What we learn from this hadith

  • Allah’s greatness is beyond the power of creation.
  • All created things are under Allah’s authority.
  • The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) confirmed the meaning by reciting the Qur’anic verse.
  • The verse rejects associating partners with Allah.
