Sahih Bukhari 5265 — Consummation Before Remarriage
Whoever said to his wife: "You are Haram for me."
وَقَالَ الْحَسَنُ نِيَّتُهُ. وَقَالَ أَهْلُ الْعِلْمِ إِذَا طَلَّقَ ثَلاَثًا فَقَدْ حَرُمَتْ عَلَيْهِ. فَسَمَّوْهُ حَرَامًا بِالطَّلاَقِ وَالْفِرَاقِ، وَلَيْسَ هَذَا كَالَّذِي يُحَرِّمُ الطَّعَامَ، لأَنَّهُ لاَ يُقَالُ لِطَعَامِ الْحِلِّ حَرَامٌ، وَيُقَالُ لِلْمُطَلَّقَةِ حَرَامٌ، وَقَالَ فِي الطَّلاَقِ ثَلاَثًا لاَ تَحِلُّ لَهُ حَتَّى تَنْكِحَ زَوْجًا غَيْرَهُ.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ طَلَّقَ رَجُلٌ امْرَأَتَهُ فَتَزَوَّجَتْ زَوْجًا غَيْرَهُ فَطَلَّقَهَا، وَكَانَتْ مَعَهُ مِثْلُ الْهُدْبَةِ فَلَمْ تَصِلْ مِنْهُ إِلَى شَىْءٍ تُرِيدُهُ، فَلَمْ يَلْبَثْ أَنْ طَلَّقَهَا فَأَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ زَوْجِي طَلَّقَنِي، وَإِنِّي تَزَوَّجْتُ زَوْجًا غَيْرَهُ فَدَخَلَ بِي، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ مَعَهُ إِلاَّ مِثْلُ الْهُدْبَةِ فَلَمْ يَقْرَبْنِي إِلاَّ هَنَةً وَاحِدَةً، لَمْ يَصِلْ مِنِّي إِلَى شَىْءٍ، فَأَحِلُّ لِزَوْجِي الأَوَّلِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " لاَ تَحِلِّينَ لِزَوْجِكِ الأَوَّلِ حَتَّى يَذُوقَ الآخَرُ عُسَيْلَتَكِ، وَتَذُوقِي عُسَيْلَتَهُ ".
A'isha Narrated from:
A man divorced his wife and she married another man who proved to be impotent and divorced her. She could not get her satisfaction from him, and after a while he divorced her. Then she came to the Prophet and said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! My first husband divorced me and then I married another man who entered upon me to consummate his marriage but he proved to be impotent and did not approach me except once during which he benefited nothing from me. Can I remarry my first husband in this case?" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "It is unlawful to marry your first husband till the other husband consummates his marriage with you."

This Hadith gives another detailed case about remarriage after divorce. ʿAisha narrated that a man divorced his wife, then she married another man. The second husband was unable to fulfill the marriage and later divorced her. She asked the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم whether she could return to her first husband. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said she was not lawful for the first husband until the other husband consummated the marriage with her. The core point is the same as the well-known Hadith about triple divorce and second marriage: a return to the first husband is not allowed unless the second marriage has truly been fulfilled.
