Abdullah bin Umar wrote to Abdul Malik bin Marwan and stated that he would listen and obey according to the Laws of Allah and the Tradition of His Messenger, as much as he could. For people searching for hadith about obedience in Islam, this narration is important because it links obedience with Allah’s law and the Sunnah. It is not blind loyalty. It is obedience within the limits of what is right and within a person’s ability. The phrase “as much as I can” also shows human limitation. The Hadith teaches seriousness, order, and respect, while keeping the Qur'an and Sunnah as the guiding measure.
