حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنِ الأَوْزَاعِيِّ، حَدَّثَنَا حَسَّانُ بْنُ عَطِيَّةَ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الأَشْعَثِ، حَدَّثَنِي أَوْسُ بْنُ أَوْسٍ الثَّقَفِيُّ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ يَقُولُ " مَنْ غَسَّلَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَاغْتَسَلَ، وَبَكَّرَ وَابْتَكَرَ، وَمَشَى وَلَمْ يَرْكَبْ، وَدَنَا مِنَ الإِمَامِ، فَاسْتَمَعَ، وَلَمْ يَلْغُ، كَانَ لَهُ بِكُلِّ خَطْوَةٍ عَمَلُ سَنَةٍ، أَجْرُ صِيَامِهَا وَقِيَامِهَا " .
Aws bin Aws Ath-Thaqafi Narrated from:
I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say: ‘Whoever takes a bath on Friday, and bathes completely, and goes early, arriving early,* and walks and does not ride (to the mosque), and sits close to the Imam and listens to him, and does not engage in idle talk; for every step he takes he will have the reward of one year, the reward of a year’s fasting and praying (at night).”
[1] It has been translated in its most general form, and the commentaries differ over the meaning. After the narration, Tirmidhi said (no. 496): "Regarding this Hadith , Mahmud (one of the narrators) told that Waki' said: 'Whoever takes a bath' refers to him; 'and bathes completely' refers to his wife." It has been reported that ('Abdullāh) bin Al-Mubārak said about this Hadith : "Whoever bathes completely' and 'Whoever performs Ghusl ' means washes his head and performs Ghusl ." And Ibn Mubārak is one of the narrators in this chain of Ibn Mājāh, whereas Waki' narrated the chain with Tirmidhi. These two views reported by At-Tirmidhi are the most popular. In Tuhfatul-Ahwadhi , Mubārakpuri preferred the second view, that of Ibn Mubārak, while in his notes on Ibn Mājāh, Sindi quoted Suyuti's view, which elaborated on the first view, that of Waki'.
