Summary of Sunan Ibn Majah Hadith 1736
This Hadith is often searched as fasting the 9th of Muharram hadith. Ibn ‘Abbas narrates that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, “If I live until next year, I will fast the ninth day too.” The wording is short and focused. It shows an intention connected to ‘Ashura fasting: adding the ninth day. The narration does not include a long explanation, and it does not mention the eleventh day. So the content should stay with the exact wording: the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) expressed that he would fast the ninth if he lived until the next year. This teaches that even a brief Prophetic statement can guide how Muslims understand a recommended fast.
What we learn from this hadith
