حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " لاَ يُقْطَعُ الْخَائِنُ وَلاَ الْمُنْتَهِبُ وَلاَ الْمُخْتَلِسُ " .
Jabir bin `Abdullah Narrated from:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The hand of the one who betrays a trust, the robber and the pilferer is not to be cut off”.
[1] Khā'in (one who betrays a trust) is a person who takes something that was entrusted to him; Muntahib (robber) is one who forcefully takes something in public view; and Mukhtalis is one who pilfers or loots. The wisdom behind cutting the hand of the thief and not the hand of these, is that the thief steals in a hidden manner while all of these are visible.
