[1] See At-Tirmidhi , no. 1498: "He said: 'The Muqābalah is the one whose ears have been severed, the Mudābarah is the one with the sides of its ears cut off, and the Sharqā' is one with split ears, and the Kharqā' is the one with pierced ears.'" The explanation is from Abu Ishâq, one of the narrators there, as is clear from the version recorded by Ahmad, no. 851 (1:108).
