Summary of Sunan Ibn Majah Hadith 388
This seawater purification hadith from Jabir is short and direct. The Prophet was asked about seawater, and he answered that its water is a means of purification and its dead meat is permissible. The narration also notes another chain with similar wording. This makes the central topic easy to identify: sea water, wudu, purification, and the ruling mentioned about dead meat from the sea. For a reader, the safest explanation is to avoid adding unrelated rulings and stay with the Prophet’s answer. The hadith gives a clear phrase that people often search for: its water is purifying and its dead meat is permissible. It teaches that seawater is not treated as unusable merely because it is salty.
What we learn from this hadith
- The Prophet was asked directly about seawater.
- The answer describes seawater as purifying.
- The same wording includes the permissibility of dead meat from the sea.
