Jabir Narrated from:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “I have been commanded to fight the people until they say: La ilaha illallah. If they say: La ilaha illallah, then their blood and wealth are protected from me, except for a right that is due from it, and their reckoning will be with Allah.”

Summary of Sunan Ibn Majah Hadith 3928

This hadith about La ilaha illallah is narrated from Jabir and repeats the same main meaning: when people say La ilaha illallah, their blood and wealth are protected from the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم), except for a right due from it, and their reckoning will be with Allah. The power of the hadith is in its balance. It names the statement of Tawhid and then says that final judgment belongs to Allah. It also includes the phrase “except for a right that is due from it,” so the wording does not erase responsibility. For readers searching for the hadith blood and wealth are protected, this narration should be understood through its own words: the outward declaration is protected, and the hidden account is with Allah.

What we learn from this hadith

  • The statement of La ilaha illallah is linked with protection in the text.
  • The hadith still mentions a due right, so responsibility is not removed.
  • Final reckoning is with Allah.
  • The narration helps show the serious place of Tawhid in Islam.
