حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، أَنْبَأَنَا أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ، صَالِحُ بْنُ رُزَيْقٍ الْعَطَّارُ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْجُمَحِيُّ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُلَىِّ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ " إِنَّ مِنْ قَلْبِ ابْنِ آدَمَ بِكُلِّ وَادٍ شُعْبَةً فَمَنِ اتَّبَعَ قَلْبُهُ الشُّعَبَ كُلَّهَا لَمْ يُبَالِ اللَّهُ بِأَىِّ وَادٍ أَهْلَكَهُ وَمَنْ تَوَكَّلَ عَلَى اللَّهِ كَفَاهُ التَّشَعُّبَ " .
Amr b. al-'As Narrated from:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The heart of the son of Adam has an inclination towards every desirable thing, so whoever follows all of those inclinations, Allah will not care which one will cause his doom. And whoever relies upon Allah, Allah will protect him from the pain of scattered inclinations.”

Summary of Sunan Ibn Majah Hadith 4166
This hadith about tawakkul looks inside the human heart. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said that the heart of the son of Adam has an inclination toward every desirable thing. When a person follows all those inclinations, he may be led toward harm, and the hadith says Allah will not care which valley causes his doom. But whoever relies upon Allah, Allah will protect him from the pain of scattered inclinations. The wording is strong because the danger is real. A heart that runs after every desire becomes divided and tired. Reliance on Allah gives the heart a path, a center, and protection from being pulled in every direction by whatever looks attractive.
What we learn from this hadith
- The heart can be pulled toward many desirable things.
- Following every desire can lead a person toward harm.
- Reliance on Allah protects from the pain of a scattered heart.
- A believer should not let every inner pull decide his direction.
