حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ حَكَّ بُزَاقًا فِي قِبْلَةِ الْمَسْجِدِ .

This short Hadith carries a clear message about mosque cleanliness. Aishah narrated that the Prophet scratched spittle from the prayer direction of the mosque. Even though the narration is brief, its meaning is easy to understand. The Prophet did not ignore something unpleasant in the place of prayer. He removed it with his own action. This teaches that caring for the mosque is not only a job for someone else. When a person sees something that harms the cleanliness or dignity of the prayer area, he should take it seriously.
