The people of Quraish were worried about the lady from Banî Makhzûm who had committed theft. They asked, "Who will intercede for her with Allâh's Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم?" Some said, "No one dare to do so except Usâma bin Zaid, the beloved one to Allâh's Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم, when Usâma spoke about that to Allâh's Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم, the Prophet said (to him), "Do you try to intercede for somebody in a case connected with Allāh's Prescribed Punishments?"Then he got up and delivered a Khutba (religious talk) saying, "What destroyed the nations preceding you, was that if a noble amongst them committed theft, they would forgive him and if a poor person amongst them stole, they would inflict Allāh's Legal Punishment on him. By Allāh, if Fāṭima, the daughter of Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) stole, I would cut off her hand." ( Sahih Al-Bukhāri, Hadith No. 681, Vol. 4)
29/4. Chapter:
Allāh sent Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) with the Truth and revealed the Holy Book to him, and among what Allāh revealed, was the Verse of the Rajm [the stoning of married person (male & female) who commits illegal sexual intercourse], and we did recite this Verse and understood and memorized it. Allāh's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) did carry out the punishment of Rajm and so did we; after him.I am afraid that after a long time has passed, somebody will say, "By Allāh, we do not find the Verse of the Rajm in Allāh's Book," and thus they will go astray by leaving an obligation which Allāh has revealed. And the punishment of the Rajm is to be inflicted to any married person (male & female) who commits illegal sexual intercourse if the required evidence is available or there is conception or confession. ( Sahih Al-Bukhāri, Hadith No. 817, Vol. 8)
29/5. Chapter:
A man came to Allâh's Messenger ﷺ while he was in the mosque, and he called him, saying, "O Allâh's Messenger! I have committed illegal sexual intercourse." The Prophet ﷺ turned his face to the other side, but that man repeated his statement four times, and after he bore witness against himself four times, the Prophet ﷺ called him, saying, "Are you mad?" The man said, "No (I am not mad)." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Are you married?" The man said, "Yes." Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "Take him away and stone him to death."Jâbir bin 'Abdullâh said: "I was among the ones who participated in stoning him, and we stoned him at the Musalla. When the stones troubled him, he fled, but we overtook him at Al-Harra and stoned him to death." ( Sahîh Al-Bukhâri, Hadîth No. 806, Vol. 8)
A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I beseech you to judge us according to Allâh's Laws." Then his opponent who was wiser than him, got up and said, "He has spoken the truth. So judge us according to Allâh's Laws and please allow me (to speak), O Allâh's Messenger." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Speak."He said, "My son was a labourer for the family of this man and he committed illegal sexual intercourse with his wife, and I gave one-hundred sheep and a slave as a ransom (for my son), but I asked the religious learned people (regarding this case), and they informed me that my son should be flogged one-hundred stripes, and be exiled for one year, and the wife of this man should be stoned (to death).”The Prophet ﷺ said, “By Him in Whose Hand my soul is, I will judge you (in this case) according to Allāh’s Laws: The one-hundred (sheep) and the slave shall be returned to you and your son shall be flogged one-hundred stripes and be exiled for one year. And O Unais! Go in the morning to the wife of this man and ask her, and if she confesses, stone her to death.” She confessed and he stoned her to death. ( Sahih Al-Bukhārī, Hadīth No. 842, Vol. 8)

The Jews came to Allāh’s Messenger ﷺ and told him that a man and a woman from amongst them had committed illegal sexual intercourse. Allāh’s Messenger ﷺ said to them, “What do you find in the Taurāt [Torah (Old Testament)] as regarding the legal punishment of Ar-Rajm [1] ?” They replied, “(But) we announce their crime and lash them.” ‘Abdullāh bin Salām said, “You are telling a lie, the Taurāt contains the order of Rajm.”They brought and opened the Taurāt and one of them placed his hand on the Verse of Rajm and read the verses preceding and following it. 'Abdullâh bin Salâm said to him, "Lift your hand." When he lifted his hand, the verse of Rajm was written there. They said, "Muhammad has told the truth; the Taurât has the verse of Rajm." The Prophet ﷺ then gave the order that both of them should be stoned to death. 'Abdullâh bin 'Umar said, "I saw the man leaning over the woman to shield her from the stones." ( Sahîh Al-Bukhâri, Hadîth No. 829, Vol. 4)
[1] Al-Rajm : Means (in Islāmic Law) to stone to death those married persons who commit the crime of illegal sexual intercourse.
I asked 'Abdullâh bin Abî 'Aûfa رضى الله عنه, "Did Allâh's Messenger ﷺ carry out the Rajm penalty (i.e., stoning to death)?" He said, "Yes." I said, "Before the revelation of Sûrat-An-Nûr or after it?" He replied, "I don't know." ( Sahîh Al-Bukhâri, Hadîth No. 804, Vol. 8)
The Prophet ﷺ said, "If a slave-girl commits illegal sexual intercourse and it is proved beyond doubt, then her owner should lash her and should not blame her after the legal punishment. And then if she repeats the illegal sexual intercourse he should lash her again and should not blame her after the legal punishment, and if she commits it a third time, then he should sell her, even for a hair rope." ( Sahîh Al-Bukhâri, Hadîth No. 362, Vol. 3)
