The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "The tribe of Quraish has precedence over the people in this connection (i.e. the right of ruling). The Muslims follow the Muslims amongst them, and the infidels follow the infidels amongst them." ( Sahih Al-Bukhâri, Hadîth No. 700, Vol. 4)
The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "Authority of ruling will remain with Quraish, even if only two of them remained." ( Sahih Al-Bukhâri, Hadîth No. 705, Vol. 4)
I heard the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم saying, "There will be twelve Muslim rulers (who will rule all the Islâmic world)." He then said a sentence which I did not hear. My father said he said, "All of them (those rulers) will be from Quraish." ( Sahih Al-Bukhâri, Hadîth No. 329, Vol. 9)
33/2. Chapter:
It was said to 'Umar, "Will you appoint your successor?" 'Umar said, "If I appoint a caliph (as my successor) it is true that somebody who was better than I (i.e., Abû Bakr) did so, and if I leave the matter undecided, it is true that somebody who was better than I (i.e., Allâh's Messenger ﷺ) did so."On this, the people praised him. 'Umar said, "People are of two kinds: either one who is keen to take over the caliphate or one who is afraid of assuming such a responsibility. I wish I could be free from its responsibility in that I would receive neither reward nor retribution. I won't be able to bear the burden of the caliphate whether I am living or dead." [1] ( Sahih Al-Bukhârî, Hadîth No. 325, Vol. 9)
[1] 'Umar refused to appoint his successor lest he should be held responsible for the mistakes in future.

The Prophet ﷺ said, "O 'Abdur-Rahmân bin Samura! Do not seek to be a ruler, because if you are given authority on asking for it, then you will be held responsible for it; but if you are given it without asking for it, then you will be helped in it (by Allâh)." ( Sahih Al-Bukhârî, Hadîth No. 619, Vol. 8 )
Abû Mûsa said, "I came to the Prophet ﷺ along with two men (from the tribe) of Ash'ariyîn, one on my right and the other on my left, while Allâh's Messenger ﷺ was brushing his teeth (with a Siwâk), and both men asked him for some employment. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'O Abû Mûsa, or said, O 'Abdullâh bin Qais!.'I said, 'By Him Who sent you with the Truth, these two men did not tell me what was in their hearts and I did not feel (realize) that they were seeking employment.' As if I were looking now at his Siwâk being drawn to a corner under his lips, and he said, 'We never (or, we do not) appoint for our affairs anyone who seeks to be employed, but O Abû Mûsa! or said, 'Abdullâh bin Qais! Go to Yemen.'The Prophet ﷺ then sent Mu'âdh bin Jabal after him and when Mu'âdh reached him, he spread out a cushion for him and requested him to get down (and sit on the cushion). Behold! There was a fettered man beside Abû Mûsa. Mu'âdh asked, 'Who is this (man)?' Abû Mûsa said, 'He was a Jew and became a Muslim and then reverted back to Judaism.' Then Abû Mûsa requested Mu'âdh to sit down but Mu'âdh said, 'I will not sit down till he has been killed, this is the judgment of Allâh and His Messenger,' and repeated it thrice. Then Abû Mûsa ordered that the man be killed, and he was killed.Abû Mûsa added: Then we discussed the night prayers and one of us said, 'I pray and sleep, and I hope that Allâh will reward me for my sleep as well as for my prayers.' " ( Sahih Al-Bukhâri, Hadîth No. 58, Vol. 9) kind to one's subjects and prohibition of putting them into hardships.

Allâh's Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "Everyone of you is a guardian and is responsible for his charges. The ruler who has authority over people, is a guardian and is responsible for them, a man is a guardian of his family and is responsible for them; a woman is a guardian of her husband's house and children and is responsible for them; a slave ( 'Abd) is a guardian of his master's property and is responsible for it; so all of you are guardians and are responsible for your charges."
I heard the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم saying, "Any 'Abd (a slave or a man) whom Allâh has given the authority of ruling some people and he does not look after them in an honest manner, will never have even the smell of Paradise." ( Sahîh Al-Bukhâri, Hadîth No. 264, Vol. 9)

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم got up amongst us and mentioned Al-Ghulûl, emphasized its magnitude and declared that it was a great sin saying, "Don't commit Ghulûl for I should not like to see anyone amongst you on the Day of Resurrection, carrying over his neck a sheep that will be bleating, or carrying over his neck a horse that will be neighing. Such a man will be saying; 'O Allâh's Messenger! Intercede with Allâh for me,' and I will reply, 'I can't help you, for I have conveyed Allâh's Message to you.'Nor should I like to see a man carrying over his neck, a camel that will be grunting. Such a man will say, 'O Allâh's Messenger! Intercede with Allâh for me.'
