46/1. Chapter:
Allâh’s Messenger ﷺ, the true and truly inspired said, “(The matter of the creation of) a human being is put together in the womb of the mother in forty days, and then he becomes a clot of thick blood for a similar period, and then a piece of flesh for a similar period. Then Allâh sends an angel who is ordered to write four things. He is ordered to write down his (i.e. the new creature’s) deeds, his livelihood, his (date of) death, and whether he will be blessed or wretched (in the Hereafter). Then the soul is breathed into him.So, a man amongst you may do (good) deeds till there is only a cubit between him and Paradise and then what has been written for him decides his behaviour and he starts doing (evil) deeds characteristic of the people of the (Hell) Fire. And similarly a man amongst you may do (evil) deeds till there is only a cubit between him and the (Hell) Fire, and then what has been written for him decides his behaviour, and he starts doing deeds characteristic of the people of Paradise.” ( Sahîh Al-Bukhârî, Hadîth No. 430, Vol. 4)
The Prophet ﷺ said, “At (every) womb Allâh عزوجل appoints an angel who says, 'O Lord! A drop of semen, O Lord! A clot, O Lord! A little lump of flesh.' Then if Allâh wishes (to complete) its creation, the angel asks: '(O Lord) Will it be a male or a female, a wretched [1] or a blessed [2] and how much will his provision be? And what will his age be? So all that is written while the child is still in the mother's womb." ( Sahih Al-Bukhârî, Hadîth No. 315, Vol. 1 )
[1] Wretched (in the Hereafter) i.e. he will choose the way which will lead him to the Hell-fire.[2] Blessed (in the Hereafter) i.e. he will choose the way which will lead him to the Paradise.
We were accompanying a funeral procession in Baqî'al-Gharqad. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم came to us and sat and we sat around him. He had a small stick in his hand then he bent his head and started scraping the ground with it. He then said, "There is none among you, nor any person created, but has a place assigned for him in Paradise or in Hell and it is also determined for him whether he will be among the blessed or wretched."A man said, "O Allâh's Messenger! Should we not depend on what has been written for us and leave the deeds, as whoever amongst us is blessed will do the deeds of a blessed person and whoever amongst us is wretched, will do the deeds of a wretched person?" The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "The good deeds are made easy for the blessed, and bad deeds are made easy for the wretched."Then he recited the Verses: "As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allâh and fears Him. And believes in Al-Husna [(the best) i.e. either Lâ ilâha ill-Allâh (none has the right to be worshipped but Allâh) or a reward from Allâh i.e. Allâh will compensate him for what he will spend in Allâh's way or bless him with Paradise]. We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness)." (V.92:5-7)( Sahîh Al-Bukhârî, Hadîth No. 444, Vol. 2)
A man said, "O Allâh's Messenger! Can the people of Paradise be known (differentiated) from the people of the Fire?" The man said, "Why do people (try to) do (good) deeds?" The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "Everyone will do the deeds for which he has been created to do, or he will do those deeds which will be made easy for him to do" (i.e. everybody will find easy to do such deeds as will lead him to his destined place for which he has been created). ( Sahîh Al-Bukhârî, Hadîth No. 595, Vol. 8)
Allâh's Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "A man may seem to the people as if he were practising the deeds of the people of Paradise while in fact he is from the people of the (Hell) Fire, another may seem to the people as if he were practising the deeds of the people of (Hell) Fire, while in fact he is from the people of Paradise." ( Sahîh Al-Bukhârî, Hadîth No. 147, Vol. 4)
46/2. Chapter:
The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "Adam and Mûsa (Moses) argued with each other. Mûsa said to Adam: "O Adam! You are our father who disappointed us and turned us out of Paradise." Then Adam said to him, "O Mûsa! Allâh favoured you with His talk (talked to you directly) and He Wrote (the Torah) for you with His Own Hand. Do you blame me for action which Allâh had preordained for me forty years before my creation?" So Adam confuted Mûsa." The Prophet repeated the statement three times. ( Sahîh Al-Bukhârî, Hadîth No. 611, Vol. 8)
46/5. Chapter:
I have not seen a thing resembling Lamam (minor sins) than what Abû Huraira رضي الله عنه narrated from the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم who said, "Allâh has written for Adam's son his share of adultery which he commits inevitably. The adultery of the eyes is the sight (to gaze at a forbidden thing), the adultery of the tongue is the talk, and the innerself wishes and desires and the private parts testify all this or deny it." ( Sahîh Al-Bukhârî, Hadîth No. 260, Vol. 8) worship none but Allâh Alone), and what is the decision about the (fate of) dead children of disbelievers and of Muslims.
46/6. Chapter:
Allâh's Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "Every child is born on Fitrah [true faith of Islâmic Monotheism (i.e. to worship none but Allâh Alone) but his parents convert him to Judaism, Christianity or Magianism, as an animal delivers a perfect baby animal. Do you find it mutilated?"Then Abû Huraira رضى الله عنه recited the Verses: Allâh's Fitrah (i.e. Allâh's Islâmic Monotheism) with which He has created mankind. No change let there be in the Khalq-illâh (i.e. the Religion of Allâh — Islâmic Monotheism). That is the Straight Religion." (V.30:30)( Sahîh Al-Bukhârî, Hadîth No. 441, Vol. 2)
The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم was asked about the offspring of Al-Mushrikûn ; so he said, "Allâh knows what sort of deeds they would have done." ( Sahîh Al-Bukhârî, Hadîth No. 466, Vol. 2)
Allâh's Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم was asked about the children of Al-Mushrikûn [1]. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم replied, "Since Allâh created them, He knows what sort of deeds they would have done." ( Sahîh Al-Bukhârî, Hadîth No. 465, Vol. 2)
