حديث أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنها، قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَنْ أَكْرَمُ النَّاسِ قَالَ: أَتْقَاهُمْ فَقَالُوا: لَيْسَ عَنْ هذَا نَسْأَلُكَ قَالَ: فَيُوسُفُ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ابْنُ نَبِيِّ اللهِ ابْنِ نَبِيِّ اللهِ ⦗١٢٠⦘ ابْنِ خَلِيلِ اللهِ قَالُوا: لَيْسَ عَنْ هذَا نَسْأَلُكَ قَالَ: فَعَنْ مَعَادِنِ الْعَرَبِ تَسْأَلُونَ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الإِسْلَامِ إِذَا فَقُهُوا.
Abu Hurairah Narrated from:
The people said, “O Allâh’s Messenger! Who is the most honourable amongst the people (with Allâh)?” He said, “ Atqâhum (the most pious and righteous amongst them) [1]." They said, "We do not ask you about this." He said, "Then Yûsuf (Joseph), Allâh's Prophet, the son of Allâh's Prophet, the son of Allâh's Prophet, the son of Allâh's Khalîl (friend) [i.e. Ibrâhîm (Abraham)]." They said, "We do not ask you about this."He said, "Then you want to ask about the descent of the Arabs. Those who were the best in the Pre-Islâmic Period of Ignorance will be the best in Islâm provided they comprehend the religious knowledge."( Sahîh Al-Bukhârî, Hadîth No. 572, Vol. 4)
[1] At-Taqwa (Piety, Righteousness etc.)Muttaqûn : means pious and righteous persons who fear Allâh much (abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden) and love Allâh much (perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained).
