Al-Lu'lu Wal-Marjan 1782 — The Book About the Characteristics of the Hypocrites and Orders Concerning Them.
Allâh’s Statement: And Allâh would not punish them while you (Muhammad ﷺ) were amongst them... (V.8:33).

حديث أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو جَهْلٍ: اللهُمَّ إِنْ كَانَ هذَا هُوَ الْحَقَّ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ فَأَمْطِرْ عَلَيْنَا حِجَارَةً مِنَ السَّمَاءِ أَوِ ائْتِنَا بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ فَنَزَلَتْ ⦗٢٧٩⦘ (وَمَا كَانَ اللهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَأَنْتَ فِيهِمْ وَمَا كَانَ اللهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ وَمَا لَهُمْ أَنْ لَا يُعَذِّبَهُمُ اللهُ وَهُمْ يَصُدُّونَ عَنِ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ) الآية.
Anas bin Malik Narrated from:
Abû Jahl said, “O Allâh ! If this (the Qur’ân) is indeed the Truth (revealed) from You, then rain down on us a shower of stones from the sky or bring on us a painful punishment.” So there was revealed:“And Allāh would not punish them while you (Muhammad ﷺ) are amongst them, nor will He punish them while they seek (Allāh’s) Forgiveness. And why should not Allāh punish them while they stop (men) from Al-Masjid-al-Harām... ” (V.8:33,34)( Sahīh Al-Bukhārī, Hadīth No. 172, Vol. 6 )
