Al-Lu'lu Wal-Marjan 430 — The Book of Salât (Prayer) of Travellers and Its Taqsir (Shortening)
Night prayer ( Tahajjud) and the number of the Rak‘a which the Prophet offered during the night, and to offer one Rak‘a as Witr, and one Rak‘a prayer is perfectly correct.

حديث عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ: مَا أَلْفَاهُ عِنْدِي إِلَاّ نَائمًا تَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ.
A'isha Narrated from:
In my house he (Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم) never passed the last hours of the night but sleeping. ( Sahîh Al-Bukhârî, Hadîth No. 234, Vol. 2)
