Al-Lu'lu Wal-Marjan 431 — The Book of Salât (Prayer) of Travellers and Its Taqsir (Shortening)
Night prayer ( Tahajjud) and the number of the Rak‘a which the Prophet offered during the night, and to offer one Rak‘a as Witr, and one Rak‘a prayer is perfectly correct.

حديث عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ: كُلَّ اللَّيْلِ أَوْتَرَ رسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، وانْتَهى وِتْرُهُ إِلَى السَّحَرِ.
A'isha Narrated from:
Allâh’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم offered Witr prayer at different nights at various hours extending [from the Isha’ (late evening) prayer] up to the last hour of the night. ( Sahîh Al-Bukhârî, Hadîth No. 110, Vol. 2)
