Mishkat al-MasabihHadith Number 5291

Sufyan Thawri Narrated from:

In the past, property was considered to be distasteful (because people were ascetic and content). To day, however, it is said to be a believer's shield (because needs of people have increased and the State pays no attention to their plight). He added, "If there were no dinars (with us), these kings would disgrace us." He said also, "He who does possess some of these, must use them judiciously (and not be wasteful) because we are in times when the first thing he will abandon is his religion." He said further, "The lawful property does not tolerate extravagance." [2]
