Summary of Sahih Muslim Hadith 1202c
This narration from Ibn Abbas gives a clear point about the cupper’s wage. A slave of Banu Bayada cupped the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, and the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم gave him his wages. He also spoke to the slave’s master, and the charges placed on him were reduced. Ibn Abbas then said that if this earning were unlawful, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم would not have given it. The hadith is often searched as earnings of cupper hadith or Prophet paid the cupper hadith. The meaning is direct: the cupper did the work, received payment, and relief was sought for his burden. The report should not be stretched into claims not mentioned in the text.
What we learn from this hadith
- The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم paid the cupper after the service.
- He spoke to the master and the charge was reduced.
- Ibn Abbas used the payment itself as evidence in the narration.
- The hadith supports fair dealing with a worker.
