Ibn 'Umar Narrated from:
I divorced my wife while she was in the state of menses. 'Umar (Allah be pleased with him) came to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) and informed him about it, whereupon he (Allah's Apostle) said: Command him to take her back and when she is pure, then divorce her. I said to Ibn 'Umar Allah be pleased with them): Did you count that pronouncement of divorce? He said: Why not?

Summary of Sahih Muslim Hadith 1471p
This hadith about divorcing after purity is a short version of the Ibn Umar report. Ibn Umar says he divorced his wife while she was menstruating. Umar came to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and informed him. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said to command him to take her back, and when she became pure, then he could divorce her. The narrator asked Ibn Umar whether he counted that pronouncement, and Ibn Umar replied, 'Why not?' The wording is brief but strong. It gives two clear points for readers searching for Sahih Muslim 1471p explanation: the wife was to be taken back, and the divorce pronouncement was counted.
What we learn from this hadith
- The husband was commanded to take his wife back.
- The report says divorce should be after she becomes pure.
- Ibn Umar counted the earlier pronouncement.
- The short wording still treats divorce timing and divorce words seriously.
