Summary of Sahih Muslim Hadith 1638b
This hadith about a mother’s vow is a supporting narration. It says the report has been narrated on the authority of Zuhri through different chains of transmitters. The meaning refers back to the previous report: Sa’d ibn Ubada asked about a vow his mother had made before she died, and Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) told him to fulfill it on her behalf. Since this narration mainly preserves the chain and meaning, the explanation should stay close to that. It shows that the same ruling was transmitted through more than one route. The useful lesson for readers is simple: when a hadith is supported by different chains, the meaning can be carried with care, without adding new facts that are not in the text.
What we learn from this hadith
- Different chains can support the same reported meaning.
- The connected ruling is to fulfill the deceased mother’s vow on her behalf.
- The report does not add new details about the vow itself.
- Hadith transmission values both wording and chain.
