وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الدَّارِمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ، - وَهُوَ ابْنُ كَثِيرٍ - عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ مِمَّا يَقُولُ لأَصْحَابِهِ " مَنْ رَأَى مِنْكُمْ رُؤْيَا فَلْيَقُصَّهَا أَعْبُرْهَا لَهُ " . قَالَ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ رَأَيْتُ ظُلَّةً . بِنَحْوِ حَدِيثِهِمْ .
Ibn 'Abbas Narrated from:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to say to his Companions: He who amongst you sees a vision should narrate it and I would interpret it for him, and a person came and said: Allah's Messenger, I saw a canopy. The rest of the hadith is the same.

Summary of Sahih Muslim Hadith 2269d
This Hadith about narrating visions shows that Allah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم used to say to his Companions: whoever among you sees a vision should tell it, and I will interpret it for him. Then a man came and said that he saw a canopy, and the rest of the Hadith follows the same meaning as the longer narration. The text gives a balanced point about dreams in Islam. Disturbing dreams are not to be spread, as other reports state, but a vision brought to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم for interpretation is treated differently here. Based only on this Hadith, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم invited his Companions to share visions with him so he could explain them.

- The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم allowed Companions to narrate visions to him for interpretation.
- Dream interpretation was not left to random speech in this report.
- A vision may be shared with the right person for proper understanding.
