Summary of Sahih Muslim Hadith 2461c
This narration supports the earlier report about Ibn Mas'ud's virtue and knowledge. Zaid b. Wahab says he was sitting with Hudhaifa and Abu Musa, and the rest of the hadith is the same. The Arabic also notes that one version was more complete and longer. The main focus is careful transmission. It does not introduce a new teaching separate from the earlier report, but it helps preserve the same meaning through another narrator and setting. For searches like Sahih Muslim 2461c, Zaid b Wahab hadith, or Ibn Mas'ud virtue another chain, this report shows how hadith scholars kept both shorter and fuller versions of a narration.
What we learn from this hadith
- The same meaning can be preserved through more than one narrator.
- Shorter and longer versions may both be recorded in hadith collections.
- The report remains tied to Ibn Mas'ud's recognized standing.
- Careful wording helps readers know when a narration is repeating an earlier report.
