حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ قَالَ كَانَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ قَاصٌّ يُقَالُ لَهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرَةَ - قَالَ - فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " إِنَّ عَبْدًا أَذْنَبَ ذَنْبًا " . بِمَعْنَى حَدِيثِ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ . وَذَكَرَ ثَلاَثَ مَرَّاتٍ " أَذْنَبَ ذَنْبًا " . وَفِي الثَّالِثَةِ " قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لِعَبْدِي فَلْيَعْمَلْ مَا شَاءَ " .

Abu Huraira reported lie heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying that a servant committed a sin. The rest of the hadith is the same, but there is a slight variation of wording.

Summary of Sahih Muslim Hadith 2758c
This version of the Allah forgives sins hadith reports the same meaning with a slight wording change. Abu Huraira said he heard Allah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم say that a servant committed a sin, and the rest follows the same meaning as the earlier narration. It also mentions three times, “committed a sin,” and in the third mention Allah says that He has forgiven His servant. This makes the main point easy to follow: the servant did not hide from Allah; he returned with a request for forgiveness. The hadith about repeated repentance keeps reminding the reader that Allah is known by the servant as the One Who forgives and also takes account for sin.
