Ibn 'Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went out on the day of Adha or Fitr and observed two rak'ahs, and did not observe prayer (at that place) before and after that. He then came to the women along with Bilal and commanded them to give alms and the women began to give their rings and necklaces. This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Shu'ba with the same chain of transmitters.

Summary of Sahih Muslim Hadith 884d
This Hadith explains the Eid prayer two rakats in a direct way. Ibn Abbas reports that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم went out on the day of Adha or Fitr and prayed two rakahs. He did not pray before it or after it at that place. Then he came to the women with Bilal and commanded them to give alms. The women began giving from their rings and necklaces. The narration joins two points: the form of Eid salah and the call to charity after it. It does not mention adhan, iqama, or a long sermon here. It focuses on the prayer itself and the charity that followed.
What we learn from this hadith
- The Eid prayer in this narration was two rakahs.
- No prayer was observed before or after it at that place.
- The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم addressed the women after the prayer.
- The women responded by giving from their jewelry.
