حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ أَبُو حَفْصٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مُعَاذَ بْنَ مُعَاذٍ، يَقُولُ قُلْتُ لِعَوْفِ بْنِ أَبِي جَمِيلَةَ إِنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ عُبَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " مَنْ حَمَلَ عَلَيْنَا السِّلاَحَ فَلَيْسَ مِنَّا " قَالَ كَذَبَ وَاللَّهِ عَمْرٌو وَلَكِنَّهُ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَحُوزَهَا إِلَى قَوْلِهِ الْخَبِيثِ .
Mu’ādh bin Mu’ādh Narrated from:
I said to Awf bin Abī Jamīlah ‘Indeed Amr bin Ubayd narrated to us on authority of al-Hasan that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah upon him, said: ‘Whoever carries arms against us then he is not from us’. [Awf bin Abī Jamīlah] said ‘Amr lied, by Allah. Rather he intended it as a way to permit his filthy opinion.’

Summary of Sahih Muslim Hadith 67
This report shows a serious concern in hadith authentication: a narration can be misused when someone links it to a chain in a false way. Mu’adh bin Mu’adh told Awf that Amr bin Ubayd narrated a report from al-Hasan from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saying, “Whoever carries arms against us then he is not from us.” Awf rejected Amr’s claim and said he intended to use it for his own bad view. The text teaches that even when a sentence is known as a Hadith elsewhere, the specific chain and use of it must still be checked.

- A Hadith report should not be used to support a false personal view.
- The chain of narration still matters even when the wording is familiar.
- Scholars challenged reports they believed were wrongly connected.
