Sunan an-Nasai 4023 — Stopping Division in the Ummah

Summary of Sunan an-Nasai Hadith 4023

This short hadith about Muslim unity gives a direct warning against a man who goes out seeking to create division among the Prophet's Ummah. The wording is brief, but its focus is clear: deliberate action that tears people apart is a serious offense against communal order. It does not discuss a private disagreement, a sincere question, or a normal difference in understanding. It describes someone actively setting out to divide the Ummah. According to Islamic scholars, the legal punishment mentioned in such narrations is handled only by lawful authority after proper judgment; it is not a command for private citizens to use violence. The practical message is to avoid becoming an agent of discord, to refuse calls that aim at breaking Muslim unity, and to protect the community from organized internal conflict.
