أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمٌ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " مَنْ قَاتَلَ دُونَ مَالِهِ فَقُتِلَ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ " .
'Abdullah bin 'Amr Narrated from:
I heard the Messenger of Allah [SAW] say: 'Whoever fights to protect his wealth and is killed, he is a martyr.'

This short hadith gives a direct teaching about a person killed while defending his wealth. The Messenger of Allah [SAW] says that whoever fights to protect his property and is killed is a martyr. The wording connects martyrdom here to being killed during the defense of what belongs to a person. It does not describe someone seeking a fight, taking another person’s wealth, or acting as the aggressor. The person in the statement is protecting his own property. Because the report is brief, its meaning should also be kept focused. It affirms the honored status named by the Prophet [SAW] for the person who loses his life while resisting an attack on his wealth.
