Summary of Sunan an-Nasai Hadith 4189
This hadith about sincere advice to every Muslim records the pledge of Jarir bin ‘Abdullah. He pledged to hear and obey, and the Prophet taught him to add two important parts: “In as much as you can” and sincere conduct toward every Muslim. The first phrase keeps the pledge within real ability. The second turns faith into a duty of honest goodwill toward other Muslims. The narration does not present obedience as a cold or isolated command. It places it beside nasihah, meaning sincere concern, truthful counsel, and wanting good for others. Readers looking for the hadith on sincerity to every Muslim can see that Jarir’s pledge combined responsible obedience with care for the wider Muslim community. Both parts were taught as commitments, not casual suggestions.
What we learn from this hadith
- Jarir pledged to hear and obey.
- The Prophet instructed him to qualify obedience by his ability.
