Summary of Sunan an-Nasai Hadith 4223
This narration from Abu Hurairah reports that the Messenger of Allah forbade Fara and Atirah. It also preserves two closely connected forms of wording from the narrators. One says that the Messenger forbade the two practices, while the other says that there is no Fara and no Atirah. Both forms focus on the same named subjects. The report does not discuss every type of animal sacrifice or charitable slaughter. It speaks specifically about Fara and Atirah. Because the text preserves slightly different wording, it also shows how narrators could transmit the same main teaching through closely related expressions. The central point remains the Prophet's instruction concerning these two practices.
What we learn from this hadith
- The narration reports a prohibition concerning Fara and Atirah.
- Two forms of wording were preserved by the narrators.
- Both versions communicate the same central teaching.
- The report should not be expanded to sacrifices it does not mention.
