Prophetic Hadiths Regarding the Three Holy Mosques
The authentic Prophet traditions emphasize the unique spiritual status of the Three Holy Mosques in Islam. According to these sacred narrations, believers should not intentionally set out on a journey or saddle their mounts specifically to visit any mosque for worship except for three: Al-Masjid Al-Haram, the Prophet's Mosque, and Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa. In these same narrations, important everyday guidelines are also established for the community. These include instructions regarding a woman not traveling a two-day journey without her husband or a mahram (rightful guardian), the strict prohibition of fasting on the celebratory days of Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha, and the restriction of voluntary prayers after the Fajr and Asr prayers until the sun has completely risen or set.
