Prophetic Guidance on Lifetime Gifts and Inheritance Rules

In Islamic jurisprudence, the concept of a lifetime gift, traditionally known as Umra, holds a unique and legally binding status. According to authentic prophetic narrations, when a person grants a property or wealth to someone for the duration of their life, this gift is fully permissible and valid in Islam. Rather than reverting to the original owner upon the recipient's passing, the Prophet's rulings clearly clarify that these lifetime gifts permanently become a part of the recipient's estate. Consequently, the property belongs entirely to the heir of the recipient. These hadiths emphasize that once an individual extends such a generous lifetime gift, it transforms into an absolute transfer of ownership under Islamic law, thereby protecting the financial rights of the heirs and ensuring clarity in the distribution of inheritance within the Muslim community.
