What Prophetic Hadiths Teach Us About the Rights of Non-Muslims
These prophetic narrations emphasize the immense gravity of violating the rights of non-Muslims living under Islamic protection, specifically referred to as a Mu'ahad or Ahl Adh-Dhimmah. The Prophet Muhammad explicitly warns that anyone who kills a protected non-Muslim without any legal justification will face severe spiritual consequences. According to these traditions, such an act is so offensive that the perpetrator will be strictly forbidden from entering Paradise. In fact, the severity is highlighted by the statement that they will not even be able to smell the beautiful fragrance of Paradise, which can otherwise be detected from vast distances ranging from forty to seventy years away. These teachings clearly demonstrate that Islam places a high value on human life, treaties, and the absolute protection of non-Muslim citizens within a community.

It was narrated from Al-Qasim bin Al-Mukhaimirah, from a man among the Companions of the Prophet, that the Prophet said: "Whoever kills a man from among Ahl Adh-Dhimmah.[2] he will not smell the fragrance of Paradise, and its fragrance may be detected from a distance of seventy years."
