Narrated Ibn `Umar: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "This matter (caliphate) will remain with the Quraish even if only two of them were still existing."
[1] The Prophet ﷺ meant (in this Hadith ) that the Muslims are obliged to appoint, as their chief ruler, someone from the tribe of Quraish even if there is only one Quraishī left who is fit (as regards the Islāmic religion) for the caliphate.Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 7140In-book reference : Book 93, Hadith 4USC-MSA web (English) reference : Vol. 9, Book 89, Hadith 254

Narrated Tariq bin Shihab: Abu Bakr said to the delegate of Buzakha. "Follow the tails of the camels till Allah shows the Caliph (successor) of His Prophet and Al-Muhajirin (emigrants) something because of which you may excuse yourselves."
[1] Buzâkha were the tribes who turned apostates after the death of the Prophet ﷺ. Some of them came to the Caliph Abû Bakr after they had regretted their dissention from Islâm. 'Umar ordered them to stay in the desert taking care of their camels till he and the other Muslims decided their case.Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 7221In-book reference : Book 93, Hadith 81USC-MSA web (English) reference : Vol. 9, Book 89, Hadith 328

Anas bin Malik Narrated from:
Narrated Anas bin Malik: That he heard `Umar's second speech he delivered when he sat on the pulpit on the day following the death of the Prophet (ﷺ) `Umar recited the Tashahhud while Abu Bakr was silent. `Umar said, "I wish that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had outlived all of us, i.e., had been the last (to die). But if Muhammad is dead, Allah nevertheless has kept the light amongst you from which you can receive the same guidance as Allah guided Muhammad with that. And Abu Bakr is the companion of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) He is the second of the two in the cave. He is the most entitled person among the Muslims to manage your affairs. Therefore get up and swear allegiance to him."Some people had already taken the oath of allegiance to him in the shed of Bani Sa`ida but the oath of allegiance taken by the public was taken at the pulpit. I heard `Umar saying to Abu Bakr on that day. "Please ascend the pulpit," and kept on urging him till he ascended the pulpit whereupon, all the people swore allegiance to him.
