Authentic Hadiths on the Miracle, Status, and Respect of Prophets

The lessons surrounding the noble Prophets emphasize mutual respect, divine honor, and absolute clarity regarding their true practices. According to Islamic scholars, these collections establish that believers should not argue or display anger when comparing the superiority of one prophet over another. For instance, when a dispute arose regarding the stature of Prophet Moses versus Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), the Prophet (ﷺ) strictly forbade ranking them aggressively, reminding everyone of the profound honor Moses will receive on the Day of Resurrection. Furthermore, during the miraculous Night Journey (Isra and Mi'raj), the Prophet (ﷺ) personally met earlier messengers—including Adam, Idris, Moses, Jesus, and Abraham—in the heavens. It was during this event that Moses compassionately urged him to ask Allah for a reduction in daily prayers, easing the burden on the Muslim nation. Additionally, the narrations highlight the purification of holy sites, showing that the Prophet (ﷺ) refused to enter the Ka'ba until false depictions of Abraham and Ishmael engaging in pagan divination were completely erased, strongly vindicating them from such forbidden acts.

Abu Hurairah Narrated from:

Two persons, a Muslim and a Jew, quarreled. The Muslim said, "By Him Who gave Muhammad superiority over all the people! The Jew said, "By Him Who gave Moses superiority over all the people!" At that the Muslim raised his hand and slapped the Jew on the face. The Jew went to the Prophet and informed him of what had happened between him and the Muslim. The Prophet (ﷺ) sent for the Muslim and asked him about it. The Muslim informed him of the event. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Do not give me superiority over Moses, for on the Day of Resurrection all the people will fall unconscious and I will be one of them, but I will. be the first to gain consciousness, and will see Moses standing and holding the side of the Throne (of Allah). I will not know whether (Moses) has also fallen unconscious and got up before me, or Allah has exempted him from that stroke."

Abu Hurairah Narrated from:

Abraham did not tell a lie except on three occasion. Twice for the Sake of Allah when he said, "I am sick," and he said, "(I have not done this but) the big idol has done it." The (third was) that while Abraham and Sarah (his wife) were going (on a journey) they passed by (the territory of) a tyrant.Someone said to the tyrant, "This man (i.e. Abraham) is accompanied by a very charming lady." So, he sent for Abraham and asked him about Sarah saying, "Who is this lady?" Abraham said, "She is my sister." Abraham went to Sarah and said, "O Sarah! There are no believers on the surface of the earth except you and I. This man asked me about you and I have told him that you are my sister, so don't contradict my statement."The tyrant then called Sarah and when she went to him, he tried to take hold of her with his hand, but (his hand got stiff and) he was confounded. He asked Sarah. "Pray to Allah for me, and I shall not harm you." So Sarah asked Allah to cure him and he got cured. He tried to take hold of her for the second time, but (his hand got as stiff as or stiffer than before and) was more confounded. He again requested Sarah, "Pray to Allah for me, and I will not harm you." Sarah asked Allah again and he became alright. He then called one of his guards (who had brought her) and said, "You have not brought me a human being but have brought me a devil." The tyrant then gave Hajar as a girl-servant to Sarah. Sarah came back (to Abraham) while he was praying. Abraham, gesturing with his hand, asked, "What has happened?" She replied, "Allah has spoiled the evil plot of the infidel (or immoral person) and gave me Hajar for service."(Abu Huraira then addressed his listeners saying, "That (Hajar) was your mother, O Bani Ma-is-Sama (i.e. the Arabs, the descendants of Ishmael, Hajar's son).

[1] The idolaters invited Ibrāhīm (Abraham) to join them in their celebrations outside the city, but he refused, claiming that he was sick. When he was left alone, he came to their idols and broke them into pieces. When the idolaters questioned him, he claimed that he had not destroyed their idols but the chief idol had, which Ibrāhīm left undisturbed and on whose shoulder he had put an axe to lay the accusation on it.(1) Banî Mâ'is-Samâ' means 'the children of the water of sky (rain)'. It is said that he called the Arabs by this name because they depended for their livelihood on natural pastures grown by means of rain.Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 3358In-book reference : Book 60, Hadith 33USC-MSA web (English) reference : Vol. 4, Book 55, Hadith 578

Abu Hurairah Narrated from:

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "We are more liable to be in doubt than Abraham when he said,'My Lord! Show me how You give life to the dead." . He (i.e. Allah) slid: 'Don't you believe then?' He (i.e. Abraham) said: "Yes, but (I ask) in order to be stronger in Faith." (2.260)And may Allah send His Mercy on Lot! He wished to have a powerful support. If I were to stay in prison for such a long time as Joseph did I would have accepted the offer (of freedom without insisting on having my guiltless less declared).

[1] The Prophet ﷺ describes Yūsuf (Joseph) عليه السلام as a very perseverant person, for he refused to leave prison unless his opponents would declare his innocence. He stayed many years in prison till he was declared innocent. When the Prophet ﷺ makes such a supposition, he only wants to emphasize the fact that Yūsuf عليه السلام was a patient man, but surely, he does not mean that he is less patient than Yūsuf عليه السلام .Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 3372In-book reference : Book 60, Hadith 46USC-MSA web (English) reference : Vol. 4, Book 55, Hadith 591
