Authentic Hadiths About Women: Prophetic Teachings and Guidance

The provided prophetic traditions offer clear and foundational guidance on various aspects concerning women, including legal pledges, ritual purity, and marital relations. In multiple narrations by Aisha, we learn about the process of believing women migrating to Medina and taking an oath of fealty or allegiance based on Quranic instructions. The Prophet accepted their vows strictly through oral declaration, without ever physically touching their hands. Furthermore, the narrations address physical hygiene, where Um Sulaim asked about the obligation of taking a bath or ghusl after a nocturnal discharge. The Prophet clarified that a bath is mandatory if physical discharge is visible, illustrating maternal biological connections to children. Finally, a narration notes traditional insights regarding Eve and marital dynamics. Together, these authentic reports synthesize early Islamic practices, female autonomy, and legal and physical cleanliness instructions.

Abu Hurairah Narrated from:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "But for the Israelis, meat would not decay and but for Eve, wives would never betray their husbands."

[1] The Isrā'īlis stored the meat which Allāh provided them with, though they were ordered not to do so; therefore Allāh caused the meat they had stored, to decay. Ḥawwa (Eve) tempted her husband to eat from the forbidden tree, and by doing so, she cheated him.Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 3330In-book reference : Book 60, Hadith 5USC-MSA web (English) reference : Vol. 4, Book 55, Hadith 547

Abu Hurairah Narrated from:

Allah 's Apostle said, "Treat women nicely, for a women is created from a rib, and the most curved portion of the rib is its upper portion, so, if you should try to straighten it, it will break, but if you leave it as it is, it will remain crooked. So treat women nicely."

[2] The upper part of the rib may symbolize the woman's tongue. The breakage of the rib in case one tries to straighten it, stands for divorce which is the natural result of disagreement between wife and her husband.Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 3331In-book reference : Book 60, Hadith 6USC-MSA web (English) reference : Vol. 4, Book 55, Hadith 548

A'isha Narrated from:

When the believing women migrated (to Medina) and came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), they would be tested in accordance with the following words of Allah. the Almighty and Exalted:" O Prophet, when believing women come to thee to take the oath of fealty to thee that they will not associate in worship anything with God, that they will not steal. that, they will not commit adultery..." to the end of the verse (lx. 62).Whoso from the believing women accepted these conditions and agreed to abide by them were considered to have offered themselves for swearing fealty. When they had (formally) declared their resolve to do so, the Messenger of Allah (may peace he upon him) would say to them: You may go. I have confirmed your fealty. By God, the hand of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) never touched the hand of a woman. He would take the oath of fealty from them by oral declaration. By God, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) never took any vow from women except that which God had ordered him to take, and his palm never touched the palm of a woman. When he had taken their vow, he would tell them that he had taken the oath from them orally.
