Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 1179
This Hadith about choice and divorce reports a question from Aishah. She said that the Messenger of Allah gave them the choice, so they chose him. Then she asked, “Was that a divorce?” The wording shows the issue clearly: being given a choice did not become divorce when they chose the Prophet. The narration is short, so the explanation should remain focused. It teaches that not every choice given in marriage is automatically divorce. The result depends on what is chosen and how the matter is treated. The Hadith also shows how the Companions asked careful questions about marital rulings.
What we learn from this hadith
- Aishah said they were given a choice and chose the Prophet.
- Her question shows concern about whether that counted as divorce.
- The narration indicates that choosing the husband was not treated as divorce.
- Marriage-related choices should be understood carefully.
