Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 1280
This hadith about eating cat states that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم prohibited eating the cat and its price. The report is short, but the grading note is also part of the text. Abu 'Eisa said it is gharib and mentioned that he did not know major narrators from 'Umar bin Zaid besides 'Abdur-Razzaq. So a careful explanation should include both points: the wording of the prohibition and the report’s stated hadith status. For people searching eating cat hadith, cat price hadith, or selling cats in Islam, this narration is often discussed with the previous one about cat price. The main lesson from this text is to avoid making broad claims without noting the report’s own caution about the chain.
What we learn from this hadith
- The wording prohibits eating cat and taking its price.
- The report itself is described as gharib.
- Cat-price discussions should be handled with care.
- A hadith’s grading note matters when explaining it.
