Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 1365
This hadith about owning a related mahram is short but strong in meaning. Samurah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said that whoever owns a related mahram, then he is free. The wording focuses on a family tie that cannot be treated like ordinary ownership. The report is repeated through another chain with the same meaning. The explanation should stay within the text: it does not list every possible relative, nor does it give a long legal chapter. It gives a direct principle about a related mahram and freedom. The hadith points to the special respect owed to close family bonds, even in a setting where slavery existed.
What we learn from this hadith
- Close family bonds are treated with special respect.
- A related mahram is not treated like ordinary property in this report.
- The wording connects kinship with freedom.
- Islamic rulings consider both ownership and family limits.
