Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 1445
This hadith about theft punishment gives a clear threshold in the words of Aishah. She narrated that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم used to cut the hand for a fourth of a dinar and beyond that. The report is short, but it is important because it does not speak about every small item or every form of taking property. It gives a minimum value: a quarter dinar or more. People often search this as “quarter dinar theft hadith” or “minimum amount for cutting hand in hadith.” The wording should be kept careful. It is about a legal punishment for theft at or above the stated value, not a general permission for people to punish others on their own.
What we learn from this hadith
- The hadith gives a stated minimum value for this theft penalty.
- A quarter dinar and above is the amount mentioned in this narration.
- The report shows that legal punishment is tied to defined limits.
- The wording should not be stretched to every small act of taking property.
