Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 1522

This hadith about aqiqah gives a simple guide for what is done for a newborn boy. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said the boy is mortgaged by his aqiqah. The text then mentions three actions: slaughtering should be done for him on the seventh day, he should be given a name, and his head should be shaved. The wording is short, but it carries a clear order of care around the child’s birth. It links the child’s early days with worship, naming, and cleanliness. The added narration says there is another chain with a similar meaning, and Abu Isa graded the report hasan sahih. The explanation should stay with the text: aqiqah is tied to the seventh day, naming, and shaving the head.

What we learn from this hadith

  • Aqiqah is directly connected to the newborn in this hadith.
  • The seventh day is mentioned for the slaughtering.
  • The child should be given a name as part of this practice.
  • Shaving the child’s head is also mentioned in the same instruction.
